Who We Are

About Our Department

Our Mission

Proudly Serving Since 1946

The Rosemount Fire Department is a fully volunteer organization proudly serving Clay Township and the Rosemount community in Scioto County, Ohio. Our department is one of two fire departments serving Clay Township, covering the western half of the township.

Our active volunteers are local citizens from all walks of life who share a commitment to protecting their neighbors and community. We provide fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical services to the residents of our coverage area.

Located at 1129 Orm Avenue in Portsmouth, Ohio, our station houses two engines, one aerial, one rescue vehicle, and two ALS ambulances — a far cry from the single fire pumper we started with in 1946.

Our Story

Department History

1946

In November of 1946, the residents of Clay Township voted on and passed a $20,000 bond for the purpose of purchasing and maintaining fire apparatus and equipment. The first fire truck purchased was a 1941 model, marking the beginning of organized fire protection for the community.

1947

Land was purchased and construction began on the fire station. A single bay block building was constructed, with room in the rear for conducting meetings. The department was then known as Clay Township Precinct A.

1948

The department responded to a major fire at a local farm north of Rosemount involving a large corn crib. Fire crews battled the blaze for over 12 hours. The nearest water supply was a pond over 650 feet away — firemen set two portable pumps at the pond and hand-laid lines 650 feet to the pumper at the fire.

1985

A four bay addition was constructed onto the original station, greatly expanding the department's capacity to house apparatus and equipment.

Today

The fire station now features six bays, a large meeting room, three offices, two storage rooms, a communications room, a maintenance room, and a member lounge. From one fire pumper in 1946, the department has grown to house two engines, one aerial, one rescue vehicle, and two ALS ambulances — proudly served by 23 dedicated volunteers.
